Gangtok, the capital city of Sikkim State is a well known hill station of India which is visited by large number of tourists round the year. This is small hill top town situated at an altitude of 5,800 ft amidst lofty snow capped Himalayan mountains and lush green vegetation. It became a popular Buddhist pilgrimage site after the construction of the Enchey Monastery in 1840. During Gangtok Tour one can see amalgamated culture of Sikkim, Nepal and Tibet which makes it a vibrant place to visit. The well known attractions of this place are:

Enchey Monastery:

This monastery is approximately two hundred years old located on hill top 3 km away from the city center. The name ‘Enchey Monastery’ means ‘the Solitary temple’ which was built on the site blessed by Lama Drupthob Karpo. It is the important seat of the Nyingma order. Originally, the Lama had built a small hermitage at this site but later it was converted into a monastery in the shape of a Chinese Pagoda. Belonging to the Nyingma order, this monastery is also the residence of 90 monks. Inside the monastery one can see the displayed images of Gods, Goddesses and a number of religious objects. The best time to visit this place is in the month of January when the ‘Chaam’ or religious masked dance is performed.

Do-Drul Chorten Stupa:

It is the most important Stupas of Sikkim which was built in 1945 by Trulshi Rimpoche, head of the Nyingma order of Tibetan Buddhism. Inside this stupa one can see the complete set of Dorjee Phurba, Kangyur relics (Holy Books) and other religious objects. The most striking features of this are the gold-topped shikara adorning its spire along with 108 Mani-Lhakor or Prayer Wheels.

Tsomgo Lake:

It is the prominent tourist attraction of this place which is located 40 km from it. This lake is known throughout the world for its calm and tranquil location surrounded by beautiful scenic vistas of Himalayan panorama. Tsomgo Lake is situated at an altitude of 12,210 feet with an average depth of about 50 feet and spread over an area of 1 km. The best time to visit this is between May and August which is the blooming season of rare flowers like rhododendrons, iris-blue-yellow poppies and primulas. This lake comes under sensitive zone so permission of the authorities is required before visiting this mystic place.
