The gesture went down very well and they staff were delighted at their gift. The MD of Company ABC then decided to take it one step further.
As customer relations on the telephone was very important to their key business, he decided to ask a friend to phone and pretend to be a person enquiring about Company ABC’s products and services. Company ABC had 20 offices nationwide so he phoned each office and took notes about who offered him the best customer service and really sold the company well.
When the lucky unsuspecting employee was chosen, the MD phoned the employee to thank them personally for selling the company so well. He then told the employee that they would be receiving a top quality jacket with the company’s logo embroidered on it as a special thank you gift. Word soon spread throughout the company that the employee had received the gift and the competition was on! All of the employees wanted to win the company jacket and 24 other employees did over the next 12 months.
In the years that followed, the competition never changed but the gift did. The MD always ensured that there was something new on offer to thank his excellent staff such as desk clocks, watches, rugby shirts, and executive pens. Each of these sought after products were accepted with pride. It was always exciting to learn you or someone in your office had won one of the top employee prizes. Company ABC now has over 50 offices around the UK and Ireland and the employee thank you scheme is still strong and a proven huge success
