Disposable lenses are usually available under the category of soft contact lenses. Disposable lenses are in much demand now as they can be thrown away after a period of use and then again go for a fresh pair of lenses. This is a very good habit as it reduces the chances of infection and other eye diseases which might occur due to regular use of a single pair of lenses. The period after which the lenses have to be disposed off varies from brand to brand and ranges from a period of one day to one month. Below we will discuss the varieties of contact lenses in the disposable category.
- Daily disposable contact lenses: Daily disposable contact lenses were introduced far back in the year 1995. These lenses are basically to be worn during the day time. These lenses come in a box of 30 for each month and these lenses have to be discarded every night and then again a new pair of lenses is worn in the morning. This process keeps the lenses free from deposition of calcium and protein which is very common for lenses and protects your lenses. They also help your eyes free from diseases. If you are a very careless person then these lenses are the most appropriate for you as they need minimum care and cleaning. These lenses reduce the chances of allergy with long use of this lens. These lenses even reduce the risk of dry eye.
- One to Two week disposable contact lenses: These lenses were also introduced much before in the year 1987. They are usually worn for a maximum of one or two weeks. After one or two weeks these lenses are discarded and a fresh pair of lens is worn. Even these lenses reduce the chances of calcium and protein deposit and thus reduce the risk of eye infection.
- One to Two Week disposable contact lenses which can be worn at night: These lenses have the same features as the above ones. These lenses are healthy and safe and can be even worn at night but prior to a doctor’s advice.
- Monthly disposable contact lenses: These lenses were approved for use in the year 2001. These lenses can be worn at a stretch for 30 days and are made of a material called super permeable silicone hydrogel. These lenses are designed in such a way that they can supply a higher level of oxygen to the cornea. Monthly disposable lenses are preferred by most of the people above laser technology because these many people till today do not believe in surgeries. The silicone material used reduces the chances of protein and calcium deposits and thus reduces chances of eye infections.
